Of the times of day, the afternoon was Gideon's favorite. Especially in the summer as the heat of the day just started to cool off. He drove down the familiar streets of Gardenview after installing security systems in Heathcliff estates the majority of the day. A lot was on his mind, specifically his brother and niece who had returned from their several-month-long trip. They'd just flown in the night previous, and Gideon expected both Maddox and Eleni to have slept most of the day, catching up from the jet lag. He hadn't been able to get a read on his brother to know how it had gone, but something told him it hadn't gone as he'd hoped.
He reached up and rubbed his jaw, glancing over at Carson who was sitting in the passenger seat next to him of the suburban. Bouncing his leg up and down out of nervous habit while he held their dinner in his lap. He'd spent most of the day at friend's house and already looked like he was about to hit the hay. Over the last few weeks, he'd looked more and more tired, and Gideon wondered if he should take him in to the clinic for possible sleep insomnia, but that didn't make sense given Carson was only ten. But then again, Carson was not like most ten-year-old's. At the stop sign, Gideon gave a small sigh and then reached over to ruffle his son's hair. It was like his mother's in a lighter shade of brown then Gideon's dark hair. "You keep bouncing your leg like that, you're going to get jambalaya all over your lap." He mused. "Sorry, dad." He piped up. Gideon's hand fell to Carson's shoulder and he gave it a squeeze, trying to be reassuring to whatever made him nervous.
They were soon pulling into the Brennan driveway, and Gideon took a hand full of plastic bags, pulling their dinner up off Carson's lap while the boy reached for the other bag on the floorboard. He took his time getting out then, shutting the door behind him, before Carson made a beeline for the front door of the ranch-style home and opened it up. "We're back!" He could hear him call out. As Gideon entered the house, he shut the door behind him and glanced around. Not seeing Maddox or Eleni in the living room, or Kitchen. He headed to the kitchen to find Carson already taking out the Styrofoam boxes of the cajun food they'd ordered from the Louisiana restaurant in town (one of Gideon's favorites if he was being honest), and setting them on the table. Gideon set the 2nd bag down and then retrieved some plates, setting them down for Carson to set the table before he mozied down the right hallway to where Eleni and Carson's rooms were.
Stopping at his Niece's door, he rapped his knuckles lightly before he gripped the handle and then poked his head in slowly. "You decent?" He asked softly in case she was still asleep.
