Grant was usually busy during the days with work, and it was often that he had to work late as well. Leaving his little brother unsupervised for the most part. Grant wasn't so worried during the school year, as Cody had school work to keep him busy, but it was the summertime that made him anxious even if he would never tell his brother he was worried about him. But considering the information Grant was privy too? Well, let's just say Grant hoped his brother didn't go out after dark at certain hours of the night. Even if it was the summer. It was safer.
Life hadn't been easy for the Finnegan's the last two years. Their parents had died in a car accident one rainy night, and Grant had to up end his entire life in portland to move back home to Xander's Cross to raise Cody. Not that the boy really needed to be raised much further, but Grant hadn't wanted to move his brother to the city. This was where Cody's life was, and he hadn't wanted to change it even more then it already had. Oftentimes, Grant struggled with finding that balance between parent and big brother. Their age gap was large to begin with, considering Cody had been a toddler when Grant had been in high school. He didn't hold it against him however, he was still his brother, and despite their...differences, Grant loved him anyways. He just struggled in showing it the proper way.
Like right now, as he marched up the steps of the Finnegan family home, with Oreo practically at his heels as they climbed the stairs and headed to Cody's room at 5:00 am sharp. Grant was already dressed and had eaten his portion of the breakfast that was waiting for Cody downstairs as he marched to his brother's room, and banged on the door. It was all the warning Cody got before Grant threw open the door, and the Akita when charging in, needed no order before she leaped up onto the bed, and right onto the sleeping form of Cody.
"Up and attam sleeping beauty! Training has started, breakfast is ready, be down and dressed in ten minutes or I'm getting the bucket." Grant said louder than necessary as he came over and yanked the comforter of his brother.

It was the summer, it meant sleeping in and not having to get up super early. So, yes, of course Cody was sound asleep and hadn't even heard the knock on his door. He was half covered by the blanket, one of his arms dangling over the edge of the bed when Oreo charged in like a rocket.
Normally he had a sixth sense for when the dog was ready to pounce, but he was in a deep, snoring sleep until bam! Cody awoke with a jerk, yelping so loudly before all his limbs were flailing like one of those weird wiggling things you saw outside of car dealerships.
'Up and attam sleeping beauty! Training has started-'
That was as far as Cody heard before he was murmuring obscenities under his breath as he tried to get a hold of the Akita who wasn't likely to leave him alone until he was up. Wrapping his arms around the dog's neck to hold her close as his half-opened eyes turned to the alarm clock on his end table.
"What the fuck, bro...it's five in the morning!" he groaned. Suddenly, the comforter was pulled away and he wanted to whine like a child. "Why do you haaaaaaate meeeeeeee so much?"

Grant did his best to hide the slowly growing smirk on his face as Cody reacted to his rather rude awakening. Oreo had begun to squirm in Cody's arms, starting to lick his face.
He was fully aware of what time it was, and if Cody had any hopes of actually making it to starter this year, whether he did football or lacrosse, he'd have to get in shape. Getting those scrawny little noddle arms of his brothers with some meat and muscle on them was his top priority. "Do you want to be starter this year or what?" Grant asked him, starting to fold up the comforter before he tossed it onto the end of the bed. "Besides, this is the only time I can actually spend time with you baby bro, so c'moooooooon. Your breakfast is getting cold." Grant told him, coming over to ruffle his hair before he turned and started to leave.
Because of his job, Grant had odd working hours. He often had to go into the office early, and then stay late. Running whatever errand the Mayor needed. Sometimes those errands involved things of the mystical sort. Things Grant was still trying to wrap his mind around after Rowan had brought him into the fold only months after he started working as his assistant. It something Grant didn't want Cody anywhere around, afraid of what might happen to his little brother if he found out what Grant actually did or he had the unfortunate luck of running into something mythical on his own. Given Xander's Cross and it's secrets though, Grant knew Cody was closer to mythical beings then he realized. He only hoped Cody never had to encounter the darker, evil and violent mythics.
Speaking of mythics... As Grant descended down the stairs, heading into the kitchen he pulled out his cell phone from his pocket and started to text his favorite one.
Good morning, beautiful (smooch heart emoji). Have a good day! <3
A small smile appeared on Grants face as he thought about Nikki, and he let small sigh out before he started to make Cody's plate for him, and sat it on the island bar. He then started to do the dishes. He waited a few moments, listening to see if Cody was still working on getting out of bed, but he didn't hear any movement. "I'M GOING TO GET THE HOSE!" He shouted, threatening other measures to get his brother out of bed.

The real problem was...he wasn't sure he even wanted to try and get into sports. After many times at trying, Cody began to wonder if he was too awkward and scrawny for such things. Or, could very well be the lack of really trying...but that was difficult to do when all the jocks looked at you and laughed.
He, quite obviously, didn't inherit the Adonis genes that his brother got. And that totally wasn't fair.
"Spend time with me?" he continued to whine as Oreo squirmed in his arms. He finally let her go to bury his face underneath his pillow. "Why can't we, like, go to a game, or...I dunno, play video games like normal people?" His voice was muffled, but Grant would be able to hear him as he left.
It took Cody a few more minutes to finally crawl out of bed, trying to push the dog away as she wouldn't leave him alone either. When Grant called up his threat, Cody had managed to at least clothe himself. "I'M UP, YOU EVIL DICTATOR!" No, he didn't really mean it, but he was still cranky.
Eventually, he staggered downstairs like a zombie, his hair still a mess before he flopped down onto the stool at the island.

Grant smiled as Cody called down. A little disappointed he wouldn't have to get the garden hose, but he supposed it was a good thing. Cody would probably really kill him, and besides that, he didn't want to get water all over. He could practically hear their mother shouting at him in anguish for getting her hardwood floors wet.
He continued with the dishes, running them under water to rinse off the suds before he heard Cody finally stagger in. He reached for the towel, drying his hands before he took the plate he'd made for Cody, turned, and placed it in front of him. "Eat up kiddo." He instructed, eyeballing that mess of hair. Maybe he should give Cody money for a proper haircut... Or see if Nikki would cut it for him. But no, that would have to wait. Until she at least finally gave in to what Grant wanted, which was to go public. Nearly a year of sneaking around was fine and dandy, but Grant had a major crush on her in high school, and now that he finally had her? Well, he wanted the world to know.
Still, he could respect the lady's wishes even if it was mildly irritating.
Grant left the room for a moment, only to come back in a few seconds later with a massive whiteboard that had been drawn on the night before. He started to hang it up on an open wall, and Cody would be able to see it was laid out like a calendar with a list of various exercises and tasks all laid out on it, color-coded and with times no less. Each day starting at 5:00 am.
