Cam liked to think he was a strong enough man. But it had become painfully obvious he was still a boy, and he needed help. Calling his sister the other night bawling his eyes out was the first step, and the second was having her make him an appointment with the new therapist in town, and the third step? Well that was avoiding Cal at all cost. Cameron didn't want his mentor to see him at the clinic, it would only cause him to worry. More then that, Cam didn't want to talk to Cal about his problems. At least yet. They had a good thing going! Teaching him how to play guitar, Cal encouraging him to get gigs. They were even going to play at the fair! Cal was the good things in life Cam had at the moment. And right now, he had to deal with the darker things. He had to deal with the trauma of Sidney and the hell she'd unknowingly, or knowingly put him in. With school starting up in September he wanted his head in the right place. Especially before soccer started up again, and he knew people would have questions about Sid. Right now he couldn't so much as say her name without flinching. The appointment was early, and Rikki had been nice enough to drop him off at Haven. The two agreed they'd get breakfast at the full moon diner after, and she'd assured Cam that this was just an intake appointment. Dr. Harris wasn't expecting him to spill all his guts, and he'd sworn Rikki to keep this from their parents until he could tell them himself. He didn't want everyone knowing just how messed up in the head he was. With a big sigh, he entered Haven. Emilia was at the desk and Cam awkwardly waved, as he all but beelined for the stairs in the far corner of the waiting room. Ducking his head, as he passed the door to the hallway that had the exam rooms. Thanks to his hearing, he could faintly hear Cal chatting away with a patient, and Cam sighed in relief as he took those steps two at a time until he came to the stop of the stairs. It was different up here than it was downstairs. It was more...homey? In a way, it frankly looked like he'd stepped up into someone's living room, but he assumed it was to make patients feel more comfortable. Haven was expanding, now offering to counsel to the people of Xander's Cross. It was certainly impressive, and nothing but good things had come out of Dr. Carson and Cal moving up here. Cam didn't really know what to do next, so he stood up there a bit awkwardly, glancing around for maybe another receptionist. His ears told him that Emilia was calling Dr. Harris for him, letting her know he was there faintly. Cam shoved his hands into his shorts pockets and he flopped down on a chair, his leg started to bounce in apprehension as he waited. Mattie Harris

Mattie thanked Emilia and hung up the phone. Her newest client was here--and her youngest, so far. His sister Rikki was an absolute sweetie, and she'd insisted that Cam was too. She was really worried about her brother, Mattie knew. Rikki had been very upfront about the issue, and about the family structure, which was refreshing. It made Mattie smile to know that Cam had a good support network outside her office, too. It eased the burden on her heart, a bit, when she knew that she wasn't the only one looking out for a client. Rikki had also announced to her, rather bluntly, that the family were all werewolves. She must have heard already that the new therapist was a witch--gossip went around fast in this little town.
Her door was open, but she guessed that the boy hadn't spotted her yet. She popped her head out of the 'office' into her little waiting area and waved. Near the stairs, in one of the armchairs, was a tall, thin teenager with a mess of wavy hair. He looked perfectly the part for a teen wolf who played sports. What a cutie.
"Hey! You must be Cam, right? Rikki's description of you was spot on." she grinned. "C'mon in. And don't worry, I've got a white noise network going, so nobody'll hear our conversation." She pointed to a few little cylinders around the area, one near her office door, one near the stairs where he was standing, and there was another inside the office, each playing a slightly different tone. It had taken some trial and error, but her area was Were-proof.
"I had Cal help me test it out just to be safe." She winked, signalling that Rikki had let her know about the family's heritage. She guessed he'd already know she was a witch and hoped that for once that might be a comfort to a new patient, instead of a reason to mistrust her. Back home she'd had a lot of patients who were uncomfortable with her pagan worship, but it seemed like most people around Xander's Cross didn't mind the scattered crystals and dried roses in her office.
The office itself was decorated a lot like the outside; she had a desk against the back wall, but the computer on it was asleep, and more of the room was taken up by a pair of fluffy-looking, overstuffed, and oversized, tan armchairs with mauve throw pillows. Between the two chairs was a coffee table with a rose quartz tower the size of Mattie's forearm. Against the front wall, the one that touched the waiting room, was a small table with a Keurig machine and a little tower of different drinks for it--tea, cocoa, coffee, cider, anything she could think of that might make her clients feel at ease.
When Cam came in, she'd gesture him into one of the chairs, then sit in the other. She pulled her jean-clad legs up into the chair with her and cradled a lavender latte in her lap. "Let's start from the beginning, okay? Can you tell me about when you decided you wanted to see me?"

Cam’s leg bouncing stopped the moment he heard a voice. His head lifted and those big browns fell on the head poking out of the open door way down the way a little. He smiled sheepishly, rising to his feet as he started to make his way forward. He’d never done this before, and most of what he’d seen from “therapist” was someone laying on a couch constantly being asked how it made them feel.
He appeared in the doorway, his long legs making him get to the door without a problem as she rambled about the space being wereproof. He could feel that magic aura coming off of her and Rikki had told him Ms. Harris was a witch, so he wasn’t worried in that regard. What he did also notice was how tiny she was, and he instantly felt like a giant.
The room was cozy enough, and he sat down slowly in one of the arm chairs, keeping his hands on the arms while he leaned back on the cushions. He watched Mattie get settled then, and he was was taken aback by how un “thereapisty” she seemed. It was actually a relief. “Um...Okay,” He sighed at her question. From the beginning? He didn’t know where to start.
“I’ve uh, I’ve never done this before.” He admitted, a nervous smile appearing as he wiped his hands on his shorts. Not sure what Rikki had told her, but he hadn’t really told Rikki much either when he’d called her practically begging for words. “I’m...lost? It's put me in a bad head place. I think thats the best I can explain it.” He said with a sigh. He kept his eyes on Mattie, despite how much they also averted. “My girlfriend-” He grimaced, realizing he was still calling Sid that. “My ex- girlfriend, did a number on me.” He said quietly.
He laced his fingers and his leg started to bounce again. “So, we’d been together since we were twelve. Cheesy I know, but she was my literal best friend, and I seriously thought we were end game.” He explained. This he could talk about. This was common knowledge for everyone in town, how Cameron and Sidney Fletcher had met in middle school and they’d been the Jay-Z and Beyonce of the school. The longest-standing relationship of any Teenager known to man, that is… Now. “She uh, she ended up breaking it to me she was moving. Someplace in lane county, and that they were moving after the school year was over, and that’s when-” That’s when she dragged my heart through the gravel and mud. He thought, letting a shaky breath out. “It’s stupid.” He said quietly, finally adverting his eyes. “There was about a month left before she’d be moving, so I tried to be positive, saying we could visit, meet up, whatever, ya know? I wanted to make it work, only the day before she was supposed to leave, it was supposed to be our goodbye day, and I guess she couldn’t keep it a secret anymore” How could she? That was something she wasn’t going to be able to keep a secret forever.
“She told me she was pregnant.” He said quietly. His head was still down, but his eyes had flickered to Mattie. “And it wasn’t mine.” He tightened his hands as he fought the wave of emotions he felt.

Mattie smiled and nodded when he confessed he'd never done this before. She understood that feeling, worrying about doing therapy "right." She'd been the same way when she first sought out help.
His story sent up several red flags as he went on.
1 - They'd been 'dating' since they were 12; awfully young to commit yourself to someone. They'd likely set up some unhealthy habits trying to mirror the adults around them. It was no wonder he was feeling 'lost'--he'd never known himself without his ex.
2 - He'd said it was "stupid" for him to try and be positive and make it work, then be sad when it didn't mean as much to her.
3 - The ex had cheated, and not been practicing safe sex, on top of it. She'd have to ask him about that later--if this girl had slept with him and someone else without protection, he should probably run an STI panel just to be safe.
It broke her heart that such a young kid was dealing with so much pain. But, he had come to the right place, and he had a whole life ahead of him. Plenty of time to meet someone who would treat him like the treasure he was.
"So, a couple of things--first of all, you're not stupid. You wanted to make a relationship that was important to you last. That's not stupid, it's lovely." she declared firmly. "Having feelings doesn't make you stupid. Believe me."
"Second, what I heard was that you loved this person, and her actions demonstrated that she didn't value you the same way. The choices she made obviously hurt you a great deal. But what you said first wasn't that you were sad, or mad...It was that you felt lost. Can you tell me a bit more about that?"
