It wouldn't have been the first time Cal played in front of people, but it was few and far between. Or it was at the bar and during a time where the entire audience was basically smashed and wouldn't remember a thing. Not that he cared, but he wasn't doing it to get noticed; he just played because he enjoyed it. Cameron, on the other hand, could do something with this skill of his. If he really wanted to.
'You said a bar, bro!'
"Yeah, yeah-" He waved him off as if it wasn't a big deal. "Then I remembered the faire. Not to mention, despite all of my charm, I don't think I could convince the manager of that establishment to let an underage kid in to play. I have a reputation to keep up, y'know." Cal was sounding way too casual about this, like he didn't realize how big of a deal it was for the kid. Or maybe he did, and didn't want to freak him out more. He did shove him for calling him an old man, though.
At Cam's question, he shrugged. "Whatever you're comfortable with. If you need me up there with you- which you really don't- then so be it. Or if you're going to be brave..." He was teasing, letting that trail off like it was a challenge. Because it was.

A cheeky grin spread across Cam's face as Cal shoved him, and he turned away from him, swatting a hand lightly at him in retaliation. Clearly Cam wasn't too beaten up about their agreement, or appearing as nervous as he originally might have been. The nerves and anxiety would hit him later. He was trusting Cal with this, taking his word for it. If he thought he could do it, then surely Cam couldn't be that bad right?
You're boring, Cameron. It was fun while it lasted yeah? I just... outgrew you." came Sidney's voice in his mind. That smile he had soon faded and Cam fell quiet as Cal teased him. A distant look had entered his eyes, and he pursed his lips. His eyes were downcast as if he was in thought. The wave of emotion that came over him, the sadness, bitterness, heartbreak...he had to ride it out in that moment.
"I'll think on it, and get back to you." He found himself saying. Snapping himself out of the sudden daze he was in. "You need to spice up your song choices though, dude." Cam let his head fall back against the log as he peered over at Cam. "If I'm going out of my comfort songs, so do you. U2 ain't gonna cut it. Show 'em some of the tricks up your sleeve doc!" Cam grinned. If Cal could issue a challenge, so could the youngster.

The kid had the talent, he had the potential. Cal was going to keep saying it until he was blue in the face, or until Cameron decided that pursuing music just wasn't something he truly wanted to do. Or even if he wanted to simply do it on the side as a hobby, as Cal did, then he'd still be willing to help him. He just didn't want to see Cam give up or not give it a real try if it was something he enjoyed.
The older wolf noticed the other's face falter a bit, and he narrowed his eyes in quiet contemplation. He wondered if it was about playing the gig or something else, but he didn't feel like it was his place to ask.
Instead of shoving him again, his hand clasped down onto Cam's shoulder in silent comfort. Ever since the breakup, Cam had been a little different, and Cal considered him the little brother he never had. He didn't want to see him miserable, so he was going to lift him up as best as he could, in whatever possible way.
When he said he'd think about it, Cal offered a small smile and nodded, "Sure. You've got plenty of time." He wouldn't push him on it- urge him a little here and there, but he wouldn't push. But then the pup was teasing him as quickly as that, and Cal feigned offense.
"That song is a classic, kid. And the meaning behind it..." It was his turn to trail off a little bit, considering he'd lost a lot of faith in many things. Not even U2 could change his mind on that, but Cameron didn't need to be aware of his own woes. "It's a good one," he added before the silence lingered for too long.
"Alright, this is a good one. Keep up." Glancing down at the guitar in his hands, he began to pick a quick riff from one of Billy Raffoul, humming the words instead of singing them right now.

Cam just chuckled to himself as Cal reacted to his tease. He certainly had an appreciation for the new stuff, but the idea of Cal playing anything new? From modern times had him really wanting to see it. To see if the old man could pull it off, or if he’d be stuck in the “Past” as Cam thought.
Those thoughts quickly ended though as Cal seemed to want to show Cam that he did infact know some new music, and the kid just grinned widely as Cal started strumming his guitar. He listened to it for a moment, before he picked up the chords and then his fingers went flying across those strings, and High C and Low C played for the crickets...
