Basics:
Name: Derek Locklear
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Species: Appears Human
Height: 6’3
Weight: 200
Fashion: Rugged/Lumberjack esc/ Biker guy
Physical Description: Derek is a tall man with broad shoulders and torso that tapers down at his waist to give him a physic that many ladies have compared to a greek god. He is a very fit, well muscular man, but he doesn't flaunt his muscles. He’s a bit humble about them actually. He likes to keep his long hair pulled back into a man bun at all times that looks like he just rolled out of bed and didn’t bother brushing it. (because he most certainly did.) His beard is scruffy however he does try to keep it well groomed if he can.
Derek likes his army jacket and plain t-shirts, as well as his flannels. Derek gives off the “lumberjack” vibes with his torn, well worn jeans and hiking boots. He wears a necklace with a metal bird pendant on it, and has taken liberties to tattoo protective charms on himself, given his line of work.
Derek can be seen with the occasional cigarette, but he almost always can be found chewing on a toothpick. He hides his dark brown eyes behind a set of old, beat up aviator glasses that have seen better days. The first thing you’ll notice about Derek if you haven’t seen him yet, is his very strong forest like scent. Mixed in with a bit of his “man stink” not many stay in his company for long, and that’s just how he likes it. He Keeps an old family photo in his wallet. It’s seen better days.
-Personality-
Description: Derek is the very traditional, and cliche “I work alone” type. He comes across as very blunt and sometimes even inconsiderate. Most of the time he’s very rude and has had made many an old lady gasp in horror at what has come out of his mouth. He likes to make things difficult just so no one will want to work with him. Which is what he wants. He’s not there to be liked, but rather to do his job. He’s a very rugged man in both looks and personality. He likes his man bun, and his aviator sunglasses, and will probably fight anyone who makes fun of either. Derek is very stubborn and will only do what he wants to do. It’s his way or the highway. Given his dark and broody past that makes up half his personality, Derek also comes across as a bit of a mythic racist. Hank is constantly trying to tell him that not all mythics are bad, but Derek thinks his old age is messing with his mind and that some mythics may prove to be helpful, but they can never be trusted.
Derek is prone to fits of violence and anger. Especially if he’s been drinking too much of his Jack Daniels that he likes to settle down for the night with in his trailer. Being in the foster system for most of his life has left him very guarded and untrustworthy of others. The only person that has come close enough for Derek to give a shit about is his foster father Hank, who taught him everything he knows. Derek spends a lot of his time alone, and likes to keep it that way. He likes to spend his time driving around the country putting monsters and mythics down that deserve to be put down, and sometimes conversing with other monster hunters. Derek is of the firm belief all monsters and mythics should be eradicated from the world, and his mind won’t be changed easily. If one so much as steps out of line, he’ll do what no one else will.
He is not a very tidy man, and really likes burgers and milkshakes. Definitely smells like he’s been in the woods for a couple days. He has a flip phone he’s constantly losing, and has just taken to using his truck radio to get a hold of anybody if he needs too. If someone really wants to get a hold of him, they know how to do so.
Habits/Hobbies: Travels constantly, likes riding his Harley, likes to read in his camper on rainy nights. When he's agitated he twirls the tooth pick he usually has in his mouth around a lot.
History:
Unknown to him, Derek was actually born to one of the tribal members of Xander's cross. His father was of middle eastern decent and stumbled upon Xander's Cross years ago. Due to a falling out with one of the other tribe members, his parents packed up everything they could and left Xander's Cross when he was only two. What Derek does remember of his parents is that his mother was kind and gentle. Singing a song to him in her own language while his father was a quiet intimidating force. (Something he inherited from him.) They lived in a quiet place in Montana, and Derek had no clue about what his parents were running from. That is, until what they were hiding from finally found them.
He was ten when his parents were brutally murdered. He has vague memories of that night, but due to the horrendous scene his brain shut down. What he does remember, is they were killed by something unnatural. Not human. Monster or mythic, he doesn't care. Just that his hatred for the supernatural blossomed. With no known relatives, Derek was forced into the foster care system where he was passed around for several years until he was about 15. It was then when he met Hank. A scrawny wiry man who was just about as nuts as he looked. But, he was one of the first people Derek actually trusted. For one thing, he actually believed Derek when he woke up one night from a nightmare about his parents deaths. The start of a beautiful partnership started, and Hank revealed he hunted the sort of things that killed Derek's parents. Hank became not only Derek's father figure, but his mentor as well he taught him everything he knew about hunting. The two had some pretty wild adventures. Nearly dying on each other more times then the other would like.
Derek's hatred of mythics has only grown after a woman, Sasha, used him before revealing she was a witch. Feeling a new level of betrayal, Derek has become even more bitter towards the mythical races.
Seven years ago, Hank decided to retire from the hunting business. He was getting old and wasn't and young as he used to be. After a nearly fatal job in Wyoming, Hank and Derek parted ways. Hank heading to Xander's Cross Oregon, and Derek continued his monster and mythic hunting solo. He stayed in touch with Hank as much as he could, but Derek never went and visited him. Hank instead would meet up with him if he could. For whatever reason, Derek just didn't want to see the "domestic" Hank. Very recently however, Hank has been trying to get Derek in Xander's Cross. Trouble a brewing so Hank says, and that he needs him. With how persistant Hank is being, Derek is starting to wonder how serious this trouble really is. Once Hank practically begged him with please, was when he finally decided to come see what all the trouble was about. Derek's finally returned to Xander's Cross.
