As they sat in the back of that police car, Cal was teetering on the edge of that place he didn't want to go. He didn't want to be overly friendly with this woman. He didn't want to be that friendly with anyone. Friendship lead him down paths he was too afraid to go again, and yet, simply being her doctor wasn't going to be enough right now. Not after what had just happened.
Just as she wasn't able to move out of his arms, he wasn't able to easily let her go. Instead, he remained there until they arrived at the station and we being escorted inside. It was nice of Callahan to trust them enough not to rush or cause a scene, hence cuffs not being necessary. Still, both wolves were brought to the large cell where they were ushered in. It was surprisingly vacant this evening, except for some homeless man who claimed one of the walls of bench.
"Just take a seat and cool off. You'll both be able to call someone to come get your asses or call a cab." Even though he cursed, Jim was relatively calm. He seemed extra tired, Cal noted, and he felt bad that they had possibly made his night worse. He just nodded to Callahan before turning to lean against the brick wall.
Quiet for a moment, he finally turned his gaze to Paige. "You alright?" It was probably a dumb question, considering, and he wasn't sure whether he was asking about her emotional or physical state.

Paige was determined not to cause anymore problems that night, so she followed Callahan to the large cells with Cal. Eyeballing the sleeping man on the bench as she found a corner to stand in. A place like this would have had her pacing. A wolf in a cage is what it reminded her off, and she told herself it wouldn’t be for long.
Paige nodded at Callahan, watching him leave, before her eyes flickered down to her knuckles. Running a hand over the reddened skin and clenching her jaw at the throbbing. Maybe she really shouldn’t have punched that door…
Cals voice brought her attention back up and she looked at him. It was a loaded question, and she wasn’t sure how to answer it. A wary smile crossed her face and she shrugged her good shoulder. Her bad one ached a bit from where she’d fallen and she was already mentally telling herself she’d be taking the whole weekend to rest it before she tried anything despite being cleared. “I hadn’t really planned on taking a walk down memory lane tonight, but what can you do when you come home to a small town where most of the inhabitants haven’t seen you for years.” She sighed, blowing it off like it was no big deal, but on the contrary it was.
“Peltz is my arch nemesis for lack of a better word.” She explained, though her actions needed no explaination. “He cheated on my best friend in highschool.” Her gaze hardened and for a moment her own pained expression crossed her face before it shifted back to annoyance. “I thought I was doing well with getting up to leave until-“ she waved her hand not willing to repeat the word. Cal had been there, he’d heard it, and he’d seen her reaction. “I don’t think I’m alright.” She admitted quietly.
Paige crossed her arms over her chest, tucking her hands under her armpits as she slowly started to pace what she could of the cell. Unable to hold still. She watched her feet for about five paces before she glanced back up and over at Cal. “Had a bad day mostly.” She murmured. “No one really wants to end it in jail, right?” She asked.

He noted how she rubbed at her knuckles, and he was remembering how she went ballistic in the back of the car and likely hurt herself, but he didn't approach right away. Even though they were in a cell with nowhere to go, he didn't want to make her feel cornered in any way.
Paige could act like none of this had been "no big deal", but it was. It clearly was. She wouldn't have freaked out the way she did if it wasn't bad, so he didn't share her wary smile; he just simply watched her quietly.
Cal let her talk, not interrupting her once even though he had wanted to a couple of times. After she stopped pacing and looked back over to him, he was shrugging and offering a small smirk. "Not my first time. Could be doing worse things." Jail was supposed to be worse, but he didn't regret it this time because Peltz clearly deserved it, and something told him Callahan knew that, too. The sergeant just had to follow the rules. If the doc seemed embarrassed about this whole ordeal, he was hiding it well.
He finally pushed off from the wall to catch her by the arm. His touch was gentle as it trailed down the length of it, urging her to unfurl her arms so that he could take a look at her injured hand. It was another moment before he spoke, his voice strangely quiet, "It's okay not to be alright, you know..." Dark eyes flickered up to her face, a seriousness deep in those depths. It had taken him awhile to understand that himself, so he knew what he was talking about. Whether it was about Peltz or her time overseas, it didn't matter.
When his attention dropped back to her hand, he gently bent her fingers and felt the bones underneath the skin. Nothing seemed to be broken, at least.

Paige’s mind instantly jumped to those worst things. They included being out in a desert with a tent and a A-47 that rarely left your side. This was far nicer than that.
The moment Cal touched her arm, her movements stopped. That calming effect he’d had in the squad car took over all over again with the simple brush of his fingers as he trailed down the length of it. Despite the jacket she wore he sent a small shiver through her, and she held out her hand for him to look at. Her green eyes raising to meet to his dark ones.
“...okay not to be alright…” Her jaw clenched, and for a brief moment she thought she was about to start to cry. She didn’t feel like it was alright to not be alright. She felt broken and beaten down, worthless. Seeing Keith had just brought up all those bad memories she trying desperately to ignore. She held Cal’s gaze, having an inkling about what he was insinuating, and her damn stubborn self refused to accept that part of her. A part of her still believed she was going to be just fine, and this was all just a little set back. “I know.” She murmured. It just wasn’t alright, for Paige Anderson to feel not alright… She didn’t say.
Her eyes flickered down to her hand just as Cal inspected it. Bending her fingers while he searched for anything out of the ordinary. She winced slightly, and the knuckles were obviously red, swollen, and a bit scuffed up, but it was likely due to bad bruising.
She’d let him examine for as long as he wanted before her fingers would curl and she wrapped her arms around herself. “Thanks.” She murmured. Catching his eye. She stopped herself from apologizing yet again, and instead let her eyes wander to outside their current cell. “How long do you think he’ll keep us in here?” She asked, feeling exhausted as she tried to think about who her phone call would be, since there was no way in hell she was calling her parents and going home that night.

Perhaps he should heed his own words of advice, but the difference between him and Paige was that her demons were currently changing her into something she wasn't. And if she didn't stop them, it would get so bad that there would be no coming back from it. PTSD was nothing to turn a blind eye to, and it didn't always mean drama from a war. Being a veteran himself, the memories of gunfire wasn't what kept him up at night...
'I know.'
The way his eyes flickered back up to her face made it clear he wasn't sure that he completely believed that she understood. He didn't know much about her, but what he did understand was that she was stubborn with so many things. And if she was beating herself up over something, if she believed in something, she wasn't going to be swayed by a doctor's words. Even if he truly meant them.
"You'll heal- should be fine by morning," he said of her hand. She hadn't fractured anything, from what he could tell, and the healing factor of their kind would help.
Finally, he let her go to step back, already feeling like he was getting too familiar, even if he knew she had needed that comfort before going completely ballistic. But now, he had to stop. At her question, he was about to say he didn't know before Callahan came back in. "Not long, I imagine," he murmured. The sergeant was unlocking the cell and gesturing to Paige. "Let's go, Anderson. Call someone to come get you." And he was leading her away.
Guess he would be next...and Blake probably wasn't going to be happy that he called.

Paige instantly watched the Sergeant come in and observed him unlocking the cell. She mentally wondered how long it would have taken Jace to lock pick it before he got himself out, but quickly dismissed it as he gestured her out.
She peeked over her shoulder at Cal for a quick moment before she quickly darted out of the cell, and then made her way to where they’d let her make the call. Heaving a sigh, she picked the phone up, not understanding why couldn’t probably just use her cell phone, and punched in Corinne’s number. Not wanting to call either brother that lived in town, because they had children to deal with, and she only had one other reliable person she could call.
The fact Corinne had answered the phone sounding like she’d just been woken from a dead sleep, made Paige feel even worse, but she made sure to keep the conversation short, and then hung up before walking back to the cells. Swapping places with Cal, Paige found a spot on the wall and rested her back against it before she sank to her feet. Resting her head in her hands while she let out a long sigh. Squeezing her eyes shut at she fought her mind and the gremlins that were at work.
Had she taken her meds that day? She froze, realizing she hadn’t as she’d been in too big of a hurry to make it to her doctor’s appointment. Having work right after had made it completely disappear from her mind. Though, earlier in the day she didn’t think she needed those “happy” pills, as the news of being clear had been more than enough serotonin. But right now?
No wonder she felt so shitty. She actually laughed then, giving her head a slight shake. “C’mon Anderson, can’t you do one thing right?” She whispered to herself. Letting another sigh out, she let her head lean against the wall, and closed her eyes. Listening to the sounds of the station to give her something to focus on.

He waited patiently for his turn to call someone, and of course it was Blake. He knew literally no one else- at least, no one close enough to ask for right home from the police station.
His friend was concerned, his mind going to the wrong thing, and for once, it had had nothing to do with Bri. Of course, because it was nearly brought up, and it was because the last reason he was here was because of his daughter, Cal was beginning to think about it again. After everything he was telling Paige, he was slowly curious about that dark, foggy path again, knowing better than to take even one step onto it. Perhaps he should be taking his own advice right about now.
When he returned, he shuffled his way over to her side and slid down the wall as well. This time, he didn't say anything, because he didn't know what else he could say, and simply hoped that Blake got there fast enough before he could dwell on things that he shouldn't.

The sounds of the precinct filtered around her, but it wasn't until Cal actually came back and she could hear him sit next to her that Paige actually found herself finding that calm again. What was it about him? She wondered. They barely knew each other, and yet they'd both seen a vulnerable side to the other that not even those closest to them had probably seen. She was summing it up to that servicemen kinship as well. But there was a draw to him she at least was beginning to notice, and the fact his scent affected her in a way most others didn't.
Maybe she really was going nutty.
She didn't say anything either as they sat there, and she only opened her eyes when she heard those jingling key's and could faintly hear Corinne's voice towards the front desk. She watched the Seargeant come to retrieve her and she sighed. Reaching over to pat Cal's knee. "Let's avoid bars on Fridays from here on out, yeah?" She asked. Making an attempt at joke before she climbed to her feet. She made it a few steps towards the door, before she stopped and glanced back at Cal. Looking at him now, you wouldn't think he was one of the town doctors but some hotshot biker. It was almost amusing.
Almost.
"Thanks again Hunt, seriously." She murmured. The sincerity showed in her eyes. It probably would have ended a lot worse if he hadn't of been there. Paige offered a small smile before she walked out of the cell, and then headed towards the front where her ride was waiting.

If he allowed himself to think about it, to even dwell on it for a moment, Cal might have sensed that comfort of having another wolf so close as well. But because of who he was and what he always claimed, it was currently ignored for the most part as he began to drift deeper and deeper into the dark. He'd already stepped over the lines and ignored his own rules tonight- it was time to stop.
That is, until Paige spoke and he realized she was already up on her feet. Dark eyes blinked and followed her, only a faint smirk on his face in regards to her attempt at humor.
When she paused again to thank him, he nodded slightly. "Any time, Anderson," he said casually before leaning his head back against the wall, lifting his attention to the ceiling to continue waiting for Blake.
